Busy week, hella sorry.  I do have an enormous amount of shit to post about though.

First things first.  I told Devan Day I'd get this up last week, before his show at Arcata Theater Lounge, so I wanted to apologize for my tardiness.

If you're a fan of electronic music, check out Devan Day's twenty minute long Glitchstep Mix.  I've given it a few listens over the last week and it's a head bopper for sure.  It shouldn't take you more than a minute or two to download it and I promise you won't regret it.

We also got some work sent in from Alister Dippner.  The gentleman has sent over pencil and painting pieces in the past, but this time around he's sent in some photos of a sculpture he's done.

The sculpture was done in clay and Alister, very briefly, said on the forums he's "trying to take all my paintings and make them come alive with clay."

It's nice to see continuity between his sculpture work and his other artistic ventures.  Click here to see Alister Dippner's gallery.

Good work friend.

I've also watched two documentaries about the macroeconomics and brutality involved in cocaine dealing.

If you have the time, I whole heartedly recommend you check out the Cocaine Cowboy series.

The first movie details the cocaine scene in Miami in the early 80s and the second movie walks you through the crack epidemic in Oakland in the late 80s and early 90s.

I thought it was extremely interesting to see how well planned out everything was and to see the kind of life styles these people were living.  Mainstream society tends to regard drug dealers as riff raff and what not, but these documentaries show intelligent and thorough they can be.

A lot of them are still murdering scoundrels, but they are intelligent and thorough murdering scoundrels.

You can get the series on Netflix if you have it.

You know the drill.  Hit up the submission forums or email me at codyconners@getfuckedon.com if you want to have your work hosted.

give me, give me

And now we're back.

With the new semester starting and everyone migrating back to their normal schedules you can start expecting daily updates again.  The next few months should be really exciting for the website; GETFUCKEDON.com will be celebrating it's first birthday day in March and within the next few weeks I'm having a thousand promotional stickers printed up.

I'm overjoyed at how well the stickers came out.  If you look to the right you can see one of the two designs I'm having printed.  One of our first contributor's, Jessica Painter, did all the design work and she did an amazing job.

If you like what you see, be sure to check out her GETFUCKEDON.com gallery.

As far as the immediate is concerned, in the next few days we're going to have a few updates of note.

Devan Day gave me a twenty-minute glitch step mix.  If you're into electronic music this will be right up your alley.  I'm on my second listen right now, and it's pretty radical if I do say so myself.  I should have that uploaded a little later today, so check back in by sundown.

I've also snagged an interview with Sacramento experiment rock act A Lot Like Birds.  Their debut album, Plan B, is an interesting listen to say the least.  If you're a fan on progressive rock and roll and/or strange sound clips being added to songs I suggest you take some time and give the album a listen.

If anyone has any projects they've been working on that they want hosted, head over to the submissions forum or email me at codyconners@getfuckedon.com

Hello there friends.

As of right now, I'm just kind of wading through winter break.  I imagine most people are busy with family and friends, but if you want anything posted be sure to hit up the submission forums.

I must say I've had a stellar Christmas; my girlfriend got me a Eee PC, my family got me a Motorola Droid, and I also managed to snag a new external hard drive.  I've also been lucky enough to be able to spend most of the break with my girlfriend.  I hope everyone's break has been going just as well.

In case you were wondering how much of an animal I've been in Modern Warfare 2 lately, here is a screenshot:

Bringing in a solid 62 and 15, with 2 assists, on Christmas morning.  If you're trying to hang, hit me up on Steam.

Hey, just checking in guys.

I won't be able to update so much in the next week or so.  I have four papers and a final to study for.  Things will be back on track once school lets go of my life.

sore jaws

I got a phone call today from Alex Faillers, one half of the disc jockey duo Helicopter Showdown.

After we caught up with one another, he let me know that he'd be sending me a few tracks tonight and the flyers for the next show he'd be playing in Arcata.

I've given each of the tracks a listen or two.  As always, the tracks are phenomenal and deserve your download; the Helicopter Showdown camp has proven themselves time and time again as a reliable source for jams.

Because good things come to those who wait, I'm only releasing one track today.

Helicopter Showdown would like to welcome you to the jungle:

Check in all week, I'll be releasing the other tracks I was sent as the days pass.

It's also incredibly important that you take a gander at the flyer that's northeast of this sentence.

If you're twenty-one or older and will be in Arcata on the 18th, the place to be will be Arcata Theater Lounge.  I can't imagine anyway better to shake off (literally shake off) the stress from finals week than going to a sick dance party.  You know Helicopter Showdown is going to kill it, and I'm sure the other acts on the bill will do work as well.

Since it's relevant to DJing, I'd like rant real quickly about something I read today.  Apparently for the last year or so San Francisco police officers have been snatching laptops from DJs when they come and break up parties.  In half the reports shit gets really crooked and the DJs aren't even issued evidence receipts.

Let's talk about something that's completely un-fucking-necessary.  I have no idea what good a laptop would serve as evidence; no one is going to be tried and it's not like the laptop is essential to proving that there was a party.

"While SFPD officials deny the laptop seizures is a new policy, they admit it has been condoned by Police Chief George Gascón, who took over in August and last month told the Guardian's editorial board he wants to make the SFPD more transparent and accountable to the public."

If you want to know more, read the San Francisco Bay Guardian article here.

P.S. I kept getting distracted by the nipple in the show flyer, it took me days to write this.

It's always a pleasure when artwork is sent to the site from artists I've never met.  This site serves the function that it serves solely because of the urge we have as people to want to transcend our aloneness and share our creativity, feelings and outlooks.  We see it on a day to day basis in our interactions with friends and acquaintances, but I think it's something special when strangers, in essence, can come together and share things.

Until her submission a few days ago, I couldn't tell you who Taylor Johnson was.  All things considered, I still don't think I'd be able to do a very thorough job telling you who she is, but I feel like because she's willing to share her artwork with us we now have a solid place to start and we can move forth from there.

Taylor Johnson sent nineteen photos over of varying style and intensity.  Most of the shots she sent were black and white, but she includes three color photos of people playing music.

When you're tabbing through the black and white set you're going to find that each shot takes you to a different place and brings your mood with it.

The first photo in the gallery is extremely provocative and is then followed immediately by a shot that is rather calming.  The mood changing experience persists throughout the sixteen black and white photos and I have hard time imagining that you won't find yourself better off after seeing the gallery.

I'm pretty impressed with shot 16/19, the last black and white photo.  It's of some fellow, who seems to be enjoying himself immensely, lying across a railroad track.  The concept tap dances near irony; you don't typically don't associate steel railroad track with comfort nor does the thought of someone lying across a railroad track typically stir up images of happiness and leisure.  I might be a bit macabre when I say that when I think of people lying on railroad tracks I think of suicide, but I feel like considering the emotion conveyed in Taylor's photo and then considering the notion that most people lying on railroad tracks aren't nearly as happy with life as her subject was, is a worthwhile venture.

P.S. Sorry Taylor Johnson, for taking so long to finish this.

on the clock

I don't have an abundance of time tonight, so there won't be any major updates.  There will be a rather large photo gallery added tomorrow, so check in.

Take this time to investigate some of the galleries/writing profiles you haven't seen yet.

Ger'night.
